With a special eye on the California market, the Mazda MX-5 NA with folding headlights was introduced in 1989. In 1998, the Mazda MX5 NB followed with fixed headlights, modified body, chassis, engines and a heated glass rear window. The third generation, the Mazda MX-5 NC, followed in March 2005. The Mazda MX5 NC is based on the Mazda RX-8's floor assembly.
